"Don't let the fat chick beat you"?

I have been racing for about 5 years now. I am not a typical runner or even triathlete. I fight with serious medical conditions every step of the way, but each step makes me stronger. I have two boys both with special needs and I have learned to chalk that up to making me stronger as well.

It is with sad heart that I must report that lupus has won the battle this year, but trust me when I say the war is far from over! My racing days are not over by any stretch of the imagination. This is just a minor setback that will make me stronger.

It's Monday!

I realize that something medical is usually mentioned in each of my blogs, so me starting off by saying that I am SOOOOOOO excited that today is my last day on prednisone should come as no surprise.  I have only been on this stuff for about a week, but during that time it has wreaked havoc on me beyond belief. I don’t think I have been this emotional since I was pregnant! It is nuts! So, today is my last day and hopefully I will return to normal sooner rather than later!

With that said… Only one more day (after today) before Don’t Let the Fat Chick Beat You undergoes a temporary face change.  (Trying to type this without tearing up) I can’t wait to not only see it up and running but to watch it as the next handful of months pass.

Something that I have noticed over the past month or so is the minor fact that I am seriously hitting the sodas WAY to hard.  A friend mentioned Crystal Light’s latest flavors, which include Appletini. I finally saw them at Walmart yesterday I felt it was necessary to grab a pack and see how it tastes! The instructions say mix one pack in two quarts of water, well, that is not how I do it; I make one bottle at a time and I don’t like my drinks very strong.  With all that said and done, YUM!!!!! I love bitter apple flavors, so this drink is right up my alley!

You have got to be kidding me!

Tuesday night, I laid my stuff out so I would be able to get out of bed Wednesday morning and head straight to the gym. Apparently that was NOT meant to be. Wednesday morning rolled around and I could not wake up. I am used to fatigue, but this was a whole different feeling. Once I was finally able to get up I was straight back down! The room would not stop spinning! I spent the better part of the day in bed holding on for dear life, I swore if I didn’t I would have gone flying off my bed! After getting numb patches my sister and I decided something needed to be done so off I went to the urgent care. All that nightmare was because I had holes in BOTH ear drums! They put me on a few meds to include an antibiotic and sent me home back to bed with paperwork saying I am not to drive for about a week, yea, like that is going to happen! Thursday, my mom had to take me to an appointment, which I returned the favor by introducing her to my favorite little deli, Wooglin Deli. As someone who doesn’t eat land animal, I can go there and have no issue finding something enjoyable to eat. Since I am wonderful little sister I even brought my sister some chicken noodle soup (which my sister said was one of the best she had ever had). My mom really enjoyed her order, so I guess they have a new customer!

Friday, I had the chance to be vain. One of the insanely long list of symptoms of lupus is hair loss. Luckily VERY thick hair runs in my family so losing hair off the top of my head isn’t too much of a big deal, at this point. My eyebrows are an area that I am very self-conscious about. I have been thinking about permanent makeup for a while now and I finally found an artist I felt like I could trust. Knowing I would not be able to get out like I want to for a bit I took full advantage of the forced quiet time.

Most importantly and most excitedly for the next nine months this blog will be under a temporary change. No, this is not turning into a pregnancy blog. Until the end of October this blog will become Fat Chic to Ironman. I am not doing an Ironman® due to the issue I had with IM CDA not ad hearing to USAT’s ruling about wearing dive gloves during the swim due to medical reasons. I stumbled across an iron distance triathlon (USAT Sanctioned) that fits my needs perfectly!

Ok, so I have sort of been in seclusion for a while, but I am still a live and I am still kicking. I am doing my best to keep this year calm and relatively quiet on the race front. I signed up for the Colorado Marathon back in September. For an early Christmas present my sister entered me into the Canyonlands Half Marathon (which by the way, I got in!!!!). After May, I am thinking about Ride for the Cure (again) which is at the end of June; I will be doing the 72 miler. I also would like to do Tri for the Cure, I love that race. Other than that I am keep my race calendar quiet. My one and only A race this year is Beach 2 Battleship.

As far as everything else… November/December were on the rough side. The VA sent me to their rheumatologist and I was informed my liver levels were high and I had to be retested oh, and I should be tested for hepatitis and this, that and everything else under the sun. 10+ viles later… I decided her bedside manner was lacking to much and I returned to my Rheumy, he took the time to get to know me, he listens to me, and his staff is just amazing. I brought him my results and he reviewed them. Yes, my liver level is high, but he isn’t concerned right now. We will keep a close eye on it, but he put me back on my methotrexate and we continued on.

The kiddo front was been jumping to, but that is a whole different blog!

I promised myself if I go two weeks without missing a workout then I can get a new running skirt (purple plaid!!!!) I am trying to make sure I don’t overdo it, but on the same token make sure I get my training it.
